 | Overall Objectives: To bring together worldwide phal growers for the purpose of (1) addressing problems of immediate concern to phalaenopsis growers and (2), sharing and disseminating cultural information for the advancement and conservation of the phalaenopsis family of orchids. |
| Specific Objectives: - Publish a dedicated newsletter which will act as a switchboard of information for member on new lines of breeding, cultural techniques and materials, newly awarded clones (by varietal name), sales opportunities, and other topics of concern. Publication will be four times a year initially, increasing in frequency as the Alliance grows. - Gather data from member experience on qualities of recessive and dominance genetics of the various phalaenopsis species and their hybrids for the improvement of member breeding programs. - Establish standards of excellence for phalaenopsis breeding and assist judging programs in identifying superior lines. - Provide regional and national forums for grower seminars. These to be conducted at, and in concert with, major shows and conferences worldwide. - Identify phalaenopsis species conservation objectives and pursue them. - Provide show committees with an exhibition category schedule that recognizes current developments in phalaenopsis breeding. - Promote simpler, less costly registration of orchid hybrids to encourage a responsible attitude toward registration and discourage the practice of non-tagging currently in use by a number of mass market plant producers. |
